Crain’s Chicago Business — Over his 20 years in the construction business, Kevin Kozlowski ’95 saw architects create the same problem over and over. Finally, he envisioned a solution.
The problem: To achieve uninterrupted stretches of flat surfaces, commercial building designers typically embed fire extinguishers in walls even though they’re too big to fit in such a shallow space. The fix usually is making the walls deeper, which reduces usable floor space, or installing semi-recessed cabinets, which ruin an interior’s smooth flow.
Kozlowski, 43, has invented a third way. He calls it Oval Fire Products.

A native of Warrenville, Kozlowski put himself through St. Cloud State University in Minnesota by working as a laborer. After earning a degree in industrial studies, he returned to the Chicago area to continue in the construction industry and helped develop a mobile computer cart during the dot-com era.
