St. Cloud State alumna Jillian Rae is joining The Flaming Lips, Sharon Van Etten and on a tribute album dedicated to Scottish folk star Donovan.
Rae ’06 recorded her cover of “Superlungs My Supergirl,” slated for track six on the album, for the new Donovan tribute album “Gazing with Tranquility: A Tribute to Donovan.”
Proceeds from the sales of the album will benefit Minneapolis-based Huntington’s Hope, which raises money for scholarships for children in families dealing with Huntington’s disease.
Along with her contribution, Rae received some ink in Rolling Stone.
“What could be better? You cover a great song in homage of a legendary performer, raise money for a good cause, and get your name in Rolling Stone. It’s a win-win-win,” Rae said wrote on her website.
Donovan was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014.
The album is set to release on Oct. 16 through Rock the Cause Records, a nonprofit record label.
“I’m really happy with how (the song) turned out,” Rae said.
The St. Cloud State music graduate, whose full name is Jillian Rae Lantry, is a multi-talented violinist, lead vocalist and songwriter. She opened a music school, The Music Lab, in 2011 with fellow musician, Josie Just in Minneapolis.
