Columbus Dispatch — When Valarie Williams talks about the thrill of being accepted at the Juilliard School, at least three other local arts leaders know the feeling.
Central Ohio is currently experiencing something of a Juilliard conglomeration among arts leaders.
In addition to Williams, executive director of the Arts Initiative at Ohio State University, the Juilliard alumni include Rossen Milanov, Columbus Symphony music director; Peggy Kriha Dye ’91, artistic director of Opera Columbus; and Willam Boggs, Capital University professor and orchestra director who has won two Grammy Awards.

Dye, who intended to become an elementary-school music teacher, auditioned for the Manhattan School of Music while a senior at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. She was accepted, earned a master’s degree and then was selected for a program at the Juilliard Opera Center, where she studied in 1994-95.
