St. Cloud Times — Like a lot of boys, Brady Westart grew up wanting to be like his older brother.
Ethan Westart’s love was baseball, so Brady played baseball through his freshman year of high school in Brimfield, Illinois.
Then he had an accident on the football field.
“I broke my right arm and I couldn’t throw anymore,” Brady Westart said. “I was running the ball and put my arm down to keep myself up and I took a helmet right to the outside of my elbow.
“When you have an older brother who is very good at baseball, you lean towards it. I played on travel teams and I enjoyed baseball. But I always had the passion for football.”
The passions have worked out pretty well for both so far. Ethan Westart is a senior shortstop for Robert Morris University-Peoria in Illinois. Brady Westart is a sophomore starting linebacker for St. Cloud State, who leads the Huskies in tackles (31) and sacks (4.5).
