The St. Cloud State University’s Department of Physics and Astronomy is hosting a series of laser light shows Oct. 16-Nov. 7 in St. Cloud State’s Planetarium.
The shows blend art and science using technology focusing on the department’s optics and astronomy programs. Primarily lasers and rock n’ roll, the shows have educational themes such as the “Legends of the Night Sky,” which feature mythological stories behind the constellations that are officially recognized by astronomers.
“I’ve seen several shows around the country, and I find that it’s an incredible draw to a facility that promotes outreach in physics and astronomy,” said Todd Vaccaro, assistant professor of physics.
There will be eight total shows through the four weeks:
– Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” – 6 p.m. Oct. 16
– Orion and Laser Beatles – 1 p.m. Oct. 17
– Laser Zeppelin – 6 p.m. Oct. 23
– Perseus and Andromeda and Laser Retro – 1 p.m. Oct. 24
– Laser Metallica – 6 p.m. Oct. 30
– Fright Light II – 1 p.m. Oct. 31
– Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” – 6 p.m. Nov. 6
– Laser Vinyl – 1 p.m. Nov 7
All shows will be in the St. Cloud State Planetarium. A $5 per person donation is suggested.
