Stillwater Gazette — For John King ’82, the term “prison guard” is outdated. In his nearly 34-year career with the Minnesota Department of Corrections — as an officer, warden and administrator — King has done much more than stand guard.

During a tour of buildings and grounds, a walk through security garnered handshakes and a hug from officers he served with. An offender working in the machinist shop proudly shared with King that he will soon graduate from St. Cloud State University — King’s alma mater — with his second bachelor’s degree.
