Alumnus earns Emerging Composer Award

Troy Rogers ’01 presents at MN Made 2014. His skills with robotic musical instruments helped him earn a 2015 Minnesota Emerging Composer Award.

Troy Rogers ’01 has earned the 2015 Minnesota Emerging Composer Award from the American Composers Forum for his work with robotic musical instruments.

He is one of four artists receiving this year’s award, which includes a $3,000 to help artists pursue a project that advances their career.

Rogers will use his award to compose a set of new music pieces for robotic musical instruments of his own invention and tour with them.

In 2014, Rogers returned to St. Cloud State to lead musical robot workshops and present a concert during the 2014 MN Made workshop at the university.

The Minnesota Emerging Composer Award is funded by the Jerome Foundation and given annually to emerging Minnesota composers working in jazz, improvisation, electronic or world music.
