For the third year in a row, the Department of Music hosted the Granite Ridge All-Conference Honor Band and Choir Festival Jan. 9 in the Performing Arts Center and Kimberly A. Ritsche Auditorium.

The Granite Ridge All-Conference honor groups bring together high school choir and band students of the highest caliber from each school in Central Minnesota for an outstanding musical experience.

Schools in the conference include: Albany, Becker, Cathedral, Foley, Mora, Little Falls, Milaca and Zimmerman.

The students rehearsed all day at St. Cloud State University and participated in master classes presented by 11 instrumental applied faculty. They performed a public concert that evening in Ritsche Auditorium.

The auditorium was packed with excited and proud parents and families of those outstanding students on stage.

The hosting of high school and middle school music festivals is part of the Department of Music Strategic Plan for community outreach. Through partnerships with local school systems, the department works to strengthen the quality of music education throughout Central Minnesota and provide opportunities that support the needs of the region.
