The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a meal, followed by the show beginning at 6:45 p.m.
Dayton will give brief remarks to open the show portion of the event. Dayton was invited to attend the cultural festival by Somali Student Association President Aziza Mohamed in October when the governor attended the St. Cloud NAACP Community Conversation at the St. Cloud Public Library. The show features traditional dances, poems, a fashion show, a talent show and speeches by accomplished members of Minnesota’s Somali community.
The evening seeks to bring together the Somali community and the greater St. Cloud community.
Admission is $12 for the public or $10 for St. Cloud State students.
Somali Night is part of the series of cultural festivals presented by St. Cloud State students. Cultural festivals are one way the university is providing a transformative educational experience for students to help prepare them to be global citizens at home, at work and in their communities. More than 1,000 students from 90-plus nations attend St. Cloud State, and cultural festivals give them an opportunity to share elements of their culture with the campus community.
