Music faculty member Peter Meyer is one of 290 quarterfinalists for the 2017 Music Educator Award presented by the Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation.

Meyer teaches guitar and music therapy at St. Cloud State University. He also teaches guitar, percussion and improvisation at St. Mary of the Woods College, clinical improvisation at Wartburg and world music at Augsburg College.

He has been a professional guitar player for more than 20 years. He serves the American Music Therapy Association in several capacities and works clinically as a music therapist in an acute psychiatric setting at Abbot Northwestern Hospital.

“I am humbled and honored that my students would nominate me for this award,” Meyer said. I am truly grateful to have been part of my students’ journey and made a contribution to their learning and growth. I would be lying if I was to say I am not completely thrilled to be a quarterfinalist.”

The Music Educator Award recognizes current educators – kindergarten through college – who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and are committed to maintaining music education in the schools.

One music educator will be chosen for the award and attend the 59th annual GRAMMY Awards and be recognized by The Recording Academy and GRAMMY Foundation during GRAMMY Week 2017.

The quarterfinalists were chosen from more than 3,300 initial nominations. Semifinalists will be announced in September.
