Scott Miller returned from Estonia last fall, but his work with Estonian artists continues.
The music faculty member spent a semester serving as a Fulbright Scholar at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in Tallinn, where he taught at the university and became active in the local music scene as a composer and performer.

The connections forged through the Fulbright has led to continued connections with his Estonian colleagues. Last summer, the Estonian sextet Ensemble U commissioned Miller to compose for them.
“The idea behind the Fulbright in the first case is to foster long-term connections and lasting kinds of dialogue between U.S. institutions and foreign institutions,” Miller said.
In November, he invited the group to debut that work “Accretion” at St. Cloud State and perform for the Creative Art Series.
This spring, he reconnected with students through a series of lectures on composition for electronic instruments and piano he presented via Skype in May. He tasked each of his students with composing a new work during the summer.
Miller will return to Estonia in fall to lead his students in presenting a concert of their works and his own featuring pianist Mari Visnapuu during the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre’s Autumn Festival.
While in Estonia, Miller will participate in a concert of his music featuring Ensemble U and guitarist Mart Soo.
“These connections are certainly fulfilling the spirit of Fulbright but also St. Cloud State’s interest in fostering long-term connections between St. Cloud State and institutions abroad,” he said.
Miller teaches composition, electronic music and music theory at St. Cloud State University.
