Two St. Cloud State University student leaders attended the American Association of University Women (AAUW) National Conference for College Women Student Leaders June 2-4 at the University of Maryland, College Park, near Washington D.C.
Sruthi Shankar and Oluwatobi Oluwagbemi earned scholarships from the AAUW St. Cloud State branch to attend the conference, where they attended workshops, a career fair and a networking event along with about 1,000 college women from throughout the country.
Both women are members of AAUW St. Cloud.
Oluwagbemi said she enjoyed the chance to speak publicly about first lady Michelle Obama at the conference.
Shankar was surprised at the number of organizations dedicated to helping young women and to see men at the conference. Through her experience, she hopes to advocate for more moral and emotional support for women on campus at St. Cloud State, particularly for women of color.
AAUW also awarded conference scholarships to College of Saint Benedict students Annie Noel, Courtney Miller and Isabel Tompkins.
