Written in the mid-1700s, the comedy tells the story of two estranged twins, Zanetto and Tonino (played by one actor), who arrive in town, both romantically entangled and on the same day. The resulting chaos includes ridiculous sword play, romantic melodrama, arrests, betrayals, stolen jewels and death by poisoned wine.
Performed in Theatre Forever’s playful and irreverent style, the production draws from Italian Commedia dell’arte with masks made by Antonio Fava. Directed by Jon Ferguson, the play features physical comedy, rapid-fire verbal play and mistaken identities galore in a presentation that is designed to be a hilarious evening of mayhem and stupidity.
