Your chances in life are determined in large measure by socioeconomic factors such as income, class, education and access-to-resources.
Experience that dynamic in an exercise called “Life Happens,” facilitated by Tracy Ore, sociology professor, Nov. 2 in Cascade Room, Atwood Memorial Center.
Registration for the free event is 5:30 p.m. The learning begins 6 p.m. A light meal will be provided.
“Life Happens” draws its premise from these and other ideas:
- Too much income inequality can hinder economic growth
- Too much income inequality can cause social upheaval
- Societies with opportunities at all levels are more healthy
The international Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has concluded that among its member nations, the richest 10 percent control half of all total household wealth. The 2015 OECD report argues the poorest 40 percent controls just 3 percent of total household wealth.
‘Life Happens” is sponsored by the American Democracy Project, The Democracy Commitment, United Way and these St. Cloud State entities: College of Liberal Arts and the School of Public Affairs.
The American Democracy Project and The Democracy Commitment are programs of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, to which St. Cloud State belongs.
