The first St. Cloud State Piano Day was Jan. 28 in the Performing Arts Center.
The event provided an educational and musical experience for area high school piano students and piano teachers, and also fostered the growth of the community of piano students and educators in St. Cloud and the surrounding area. Participants had the opportunity to attend workshops on Baroque ornamentation, expand their knowledge about how pianos are made, develop new chamber music skills and build relationships with other participants.
Piano teachers and students discussed piano repertoire, technique, pedagogy and learned about the science and craftsmanship behind how pianos work.
Presentations and workshops were led by Shannon Sadler and special guest Alice Tillman, a Steinway piano specialist at Schmitt Music. A faculty piano recital concluded the day featuring Sadler joined by Marion Judish, violin, and Charles Asch, cello.
