Unity in the community is the theme behind Somali Night March 18 at St. Cloud State University.
“Our message is to help educate our audience about the different sectors of Somali culture and inspire the youth,” said Mohamed Warsame, Somali Student Association president.
The evening begins at 5 p.m. with a meal, followed by the show beginning at 6:30 p.m in the Atwood Memorial Center Ballroom.
The meal features cultural Somali foods like sambusa, tea, goat meat, rice and suqaar.
State Representative Ilhan Omar will be the featured speaker followed by dancing, music and other performances.
Tickets are $10 and are sold at the door the day of the event.
Cultural festivals are one way the university is providing a transformative educational experience for students to help prepare them to be global citizens at home, at work and in their communities. More than 1,000 students from 90-plus nations attend St. Cloud State, and cultural festivals give them an opportunity to share elements of their culture with the campus community.
