St. Cloud Times — Last season, the St. Cloud State women’s hockey team got a chance to be part of Hockey Day Minnesota when the Huskies played against Minnesota State-Mankato at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The teams tied, with St. Cloud State picking up a win in the shootout, 3-2, in a game that was televised on FOX Sports North Plus.
Last week, the announcement was made that the Huskies will play a bigger role in this year’s Hockey Day Minnesota event.
St. Cloud State will play Minnesota-Duluth in a WCHA game that will be played at 1 p.m. at Eastman Park next to Lake George in what will be the Huskies’ first outdoor game. The game will also be televised on FOX Sports North and will be sandwiched between two boys high school hockey games (St. Cloud vs. St. Cloud Cathedral at 10 a.m. and Moorhead vs. Centennial at 4 p.m.).
“We heard rumblings about it right after Christmas when we got the word that the event might be going in St. Cloud’s direction,” St. Cloud State coach Eric Rud said. “FOX Sports North reached out to the WCHA office and asked if St. Cloud did get it, would we be interested. The answer was, ‘Absolutely, yes.’
