The SCSU Foundation recently received a major commitment from Karen Wittmayer Beckers ‘64 and Gabe Beckers ‘65 in their estate for St. Cloud State University. The largest portion of their gift will go toward scholarships for sophomores, juniors and seniors based on financial need. The remaining portion will go toward scholarships for students to study abroad.
“We enjoyed our college experience at St. Cloud State greatly,” said Karen Wittmayer Beckers of hers and Gabe’s experiences. “It prepared us both for satisfying careers in education, and encouraged us to pursue education, travel and learning even further. There is no end to the opportunities available to young people today, and we hope that our gift will make it possible for some of them to enjoy their college years without accumulating great debt, engage in productive, satisfying careers, and ultimately retire in good health and happiness as we have.”
The Gabe and Karen Wittmayer Beckers Financial Assistance Scholarship will be awarded to a student who is enrolled full-time, is a sophomore, junior or senior when the scholarship is received and demonstrates significant financial need. The Gabe and Karen Wittmayer Beckers Study Abroad Scholarship will select students based on full-time enrollment at St. Cloud State as a sophomore, junior or senior, and studying abroad in a SCSU affiliated or featured program.
“Karen and Gabe Beckers are two outstanding examples of our alumni who are passionate about the success of our students at St. Cloud State,” said Matt Andrew, Vice President of University Advancement. “Providing scholarships helps reduce the financial barriers that can be the difference in achieving that success. The Beckers’ generosity will help us to make more resources available to students so they can focus on achieving their dreams.”
