Celebrate Dashain and Tihar with HELPING Nepal International Oct. 14 as they put on a night of dancing, music, and food.
“Our theme this time is ‘Aagan’. It’s because in the festival of Dashain and Tihar, we gather together from different places and celebrate with our close ones,” said Bishnu Sharma, President of Helping Nepal International, “Aagan is a Nepali word which means common platform where we can gather together.”
The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 14 in Ritsche Auditorium with traditional Nepali food being served from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Atwood Ballroom.
The main highlights of the events are traditional dances, songs and Nepal cuisine, Sharma said.
“Dashain and Tihar Night is one of the major events presented by HELPING Nepal International to celebrate and promote the two major festivals of Nepal: Dashain and Tihar,” Sharma said. “This event showcases the culture and traditions of our country through an assortment of performances.”
Tickets are being sold at a kiosk in Atwood. The price is $9 for the general public and $8 for students.
“HELPING Nepal International is a student organization with the passion of giving back to the Nepalese community. The word HELPING stands for Humanitarian, Education, Leadership, Partnership for Innovating Networks Globally,” Sharma said, “It empowers youth by focusing on social integration of larger community and youth, including orphans, through discussion and education programs.”
Cultural festivals are one way the university is providing a transformative educational experience for students to help prepare them to be global citizens at home, at work and in their communities. More than 1,000 students from about 90 nations attend St. Cloud State, and cultural festivals give them an opportunity to share elements of their culture with the campus community.
