Students from 85 nations are enrolled fall semester at St. Cloud State.
Of the 1,512 international students . . .
- 1,025 are undergraduates
- 356 are graduate students
- 10 are pursuing doctoral degrees
- 121 are not seeking degrees
That 1,512 total represents a 10-percent increase from 2016. International student enrollment has increased each year since 2013.
Undergraduate students from other lands increased 12 percent, year-over-year. Graduate students declined 2.5 percent, year-over-year.
Top nations-of-origin include Nepal (387), China (202), India (185), Saudi Arabia (128) and South Korea (58). Enrollment from China jumped more than 38 percent from the 146 students enrolled in 2016.
The most recent Institute of International Education report ranks St. Cloud State’s international student enrollment among America’s top 40 master’s granting institutions.
During the 2015-16 school year, Minnesota’s 15,389 foreign students and their families contributed an estimated $457.6 million to the economy. St. Cloud State’s international students alone contributed an estimated $35.4 million.

St. Cloud State has a student from Tunisia, an Islamic representative democracy in North Africa. Home to some 11 million people, Tunisia is known for its Mediterranean beaches and luxury hotels, including the La Villa Bleue, which is the near the ancient ruins at Carthage.
Another lone student hails from Lithuania, a Baltic nation that formerly was part of the Soviet Union. About the same area as West Virginia, Lithuania is a member of the European Union and power in international basketball.
St. Cloud State’s total enrollment — a headcount on the 30th day of the fall 2017 semester — is 14,615, down from 15,092 in 2016.
