Kayla Shelley, Delano, and Ben Uecker, Ramsey are serving as student representatives for the Students United 2018 Washington D.C. Lobby Trip.
They are two of 10 Minnesota State students serving on the trip March 6-9. Shelley is St. Cloud State’s representative, and Uecker is attending as a Student United officer.
The annual trip is the only time student representatives from all Minnesota State universities are brought to Washington D.C. to lobby on a specific legislative agenda that encompasses the topics students pre-determined as important to them.
The students are meeting with U.S. Senators and their staff members, along with U.S. Representatives, to discuss topics such as Title IX, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), Federal Perkins Loan, expansion of the Pell Grant and textbook affordability.
Shelley is a communication studies major and former St. Cloud State Student Government vice president.
Uecker is an Information Systems major. He is treasurer of Students United.
