University Chronicle moves to online

St. Cloud State University’s independent, student-run, award winning newspaper, the University Chronicle – covering everything from cultural events on campus to St. Cloud State sports coverage to breaking news in the community, is now fully an online publication.

The University Chronicle transitioned to a fully digital news publication at the start of the fall 2017 semester. Similar to other national news publications, the University Chronicle now focuses efforts on publishing online and no longer publishes a physical print newspaper, although they will have two special print-editions in spring 2018 that will consist of long-form, feature journalism in a magazine-style format.

“We hold the standards of our publication high, to the same as those within the professional journalism industry,” said Cody Poirier, business manager and lifestyle editor for the University Chronicle.

The University Chronicle has reported events of the tri-county area for more than 90 years, and it has gone through many changes througout the past decade with the advent of new technologies.

“With how fast news and information spreads in the digital-age era, we at the University Chronicle felt it was necessary to focus our efforts on bringing information to the students and staff of the university and St. Cloud community as quickly as possible, while retaining our quality,” Poirier said.

The University Chronicle was founded Sept. 19th, 1924.

The newspaper is funded with student activity fees through the St. Cloud State University Student Government/Senate Finance Committee.
