That 1,411 total is the second-highest enrollment since 2013. International students are 10.4 percent of the University’s 13,467 fall enrollment.
Top nations-of-origin include Nepal (346), China (166), India (145), Saudi Arabia (111) and South Korea (72). Students from South Korea increased 24 percent, year-over-year.
Minnesota’s 15,695 foreign students and their families contribute an estimated $473.6 million to the economy. St. Cloud State’s international students contribute an estimated $43 million and support 243 jobs.

The number of enrolled international students studying in the U.S. declined during the 2017-18 academic year to 891,330, a year-over-year drop of 11,797, according to the Institute of International Education (IIE) “Open Doors” report. That’s the first decline since the New York-based advocacy organization first collected that metric in 1979-80.
Among America’s master’s granting colleges and universities, St. Cloud State is ranked 11th for international student enrollment, according to the IIE.
St. Cloud State has six students from Kazakhstan, a landlocked Central Asian nation of 18 million. The oil-rich former Soviet republic is ethnically and geographically diverse.
St. Cloud State’s total enrollment — a headcount on the 30th day of the fall 2018 semester — is 13,467.
