Are you one of the St. Cloud State students or alum who factor into the 44 million people in the United States today with student loan debt? With a deficit totaling more than 1.5 trillion dollars, student loan debt is second only to mortgage debt nationwide. According to the Institute for College Access & Success, Minnesotans have an average student loan debt of $31,915.
There are many ways to ease the daunting burden of student loan debt. St. Cloud State University’s School of Public Affairs and Financial Aid Office will hold informational seminars on how to manage your student loan debt by way of loan forgiveness and reduced payment programs on Monday, Nov. 26 and Tuesday, Nov. 27.
Students, alumni and community members will learn about reduced payment programs, including income-driven plans, refinancing and auto pay discounts. The seminar will also include information about the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program that assists those who work for government organizations (federal, state and local), not-for-profit organizations that qualify for the 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, or employed full-time in the AmeriCorps or Peace Corps.
