ST. CLOUD TIMES — Women earn more degrees than male students nationwide, but women are not running colleges and universities at the same rate as men.
And yet Minnesota State has promoted more women to college president than the national average.
Female presidents make up half of those in the state system, according to Doug Anderson, Minnesota State communication and media director.
Nationally, women made up 30 percent of college and university presidents in a 2017 report from the American Council on Education.
The University of Minnesota, which is separate form Minnesota State, hired Joan Gabel last month. She’s the first female president in its history of more than 165 years.
Women now lead St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud Technical and Community College and the College of St. Benedict.
