The 2019-20 year started with a bang as fireworks over Thursday-evening’s Kick-Off Celebration welcomed new students to campus.
The event also included greetings from President Robbyn Wacker, Mayor Dave Kleis ’89 and student government leaders, student athletes and Husky Sports Band.
Throughout Huskies First Four new students had a chance to explore campus and make new friends during welcoming events. The more than 70 events of Huskies First Four Days were helped along by orientation leaders. As of Friday afternoon, more than 1,000 new students had checked in at Huskies First Four events, including packing Ritsche Auditorium for the newly-designed New Student Convocation.
What followed convocation was a full day of academic orientation events, service projects and afternoon workshops. That evening, new and returning students unwound in Atwood Memorial Center by enjoying food and games during Atwood After Dark.
The activities continued Saturday with a morning hike, followed by a Military Appreciation Picnic, campus and classroom tours and service projects in Atwood Memorial Center. The night wrapped up with dance at Club Red. Students closed out the First Four Days with a hike, campus cleanup, a Library Lawn Party, de-stress “Chalk & Chill” activities at Eastman Hall, a Gameshow experience, where President Robbyn Wacker joined in the fun, and and an ice cream social.
Huskies First Events will continue throughout the First Four Weeks to help all new and returning students prepare for a successful year.
