ST. CLOUD TIMES — Matt Julius’ lab work is essentially on hold these days.
The St. Cloud State University biology professor goes to campus each day to maintain small samples of various algae.
Normally SCSU students help grow that algae in large quantities for use as a colorant in dietary supplements and to create nano-structural materials for medical purposes.
But most students are not allowed on campus as the COVID-19 pandemic has locked down Minnesota, infecting more than 5,000 in the state and well over 3 million people in the world as of Thursday.
Students are still taking classes online, which has forced professors to get creative, especially professors who rely on laboratories for hands-on study.
