Firefighters watching the flag raising
St. Cloud State Student Veterans Organization leads a Patriot Day Flag Raising in observation and reflection on the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Fighting Saints ROTC Battalion, St. Cloud Police Department and St. Cloud Fire Department participated in the flag raising.
Student Veterans Organization President Daniel Davitt addresses the crowd during the flag raising. Davitt is a staff sergeant with the 148th Logistic Readiness Squadron 148th Fighter Wing in Duluth.
He encouraged those present to respond to the challenges of today with the same love, friendship, thankfulness and philanthropy that people showed on Sept. 12, 2001.
Those assembled took a moment of silence to remember those who had died in the attacks and their aftermath. including 343 firefighters and 60 police officers.
