Campus Recreation is getting students involved and staying active during the pandemic with a series of fitness classes, trips and intramural offerings available to students, faculty and staff alike.
Events so far this fall have been drawing participants from across campus. Fifty students, faculty and staff members participated in a Plant a Seed event Sept. 2. Participants planted seeds in a terra cotta plant to take home with the intention that the plant reminds them to “plant a seed” by trying something new and watching new skills grow through responsibility, initiative and work.
A Bike the Night trip around St. Cloud Aug. 26 crew 16 participants who got some exercise and an introduction to St. Cloud’s parks. Eight students joined in to go a little further and explore Quarry Park in Waite Park where they enjoyed a swim and hike.
Intramurals are also taking off this fall with more than 55 participants in 11 teams squaring off in 4 v 4 Sand Volleyball. The championship is at 5 p.m. Sept. 23, so stop by to cheer on our champions. Badminton teams also filled up this fall with 26 students participating.
Also happening now is 21 Days of Fitness and Yoga on the Patio. Complete 21 fitness classes before Nov. 13 and earn a T-shirt and entry into a drawing for JBL speakers. 21 Days of Fitness is open to all Group X class members. Campus Recreation is teaming up with Healthy Huskies for Yoga on the Patio a 45-minute yoga class on the Riverside Patio of Eastman Hall. The last Yoga on the Patio is at noon Sept. 24.
In addition Campus Recreation’s Wellness events encourage campus members to stay healthy even when they aren’t being physically active by caring for their mind and nutrition. The next Nutrition Minute will be held throughout campus Nov. 3. Look for a healthy snack delivered by the campus recreation staff and students.
