Filmmaker Desiree Akhavan is screening her film “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” at 2 p.m. March 22 in the Miller Center Auditorium and on Zoom as part of her residency with the College of Liberal Arts.
A question and answer session will follow the screening.
Akhavan is a writer director and actress based in New York City and London whose work often explores immigrant and LGBTQ identities. Her debut feature film, “Appropriate Behavior” premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and was nominated for the Best First Screenplay at the Indie Spirit Awards.
“The Miseducation of Cameron Post” is her second feature film and tells the story of a Cameron Post, a teenager in the 1990s who is sent to a Christian gay conversion therapy program. The film stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Sasha Lane and Forrest Goodluck and won the 2018 Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize for U.S. Drama.
Akhavan is also the creator and star of “The Bisexual”, a six-part comedic series for the BBC and Hulu. In addition to directing her own scripts, she has directed episodes of “Briarpatch”, “Ramy” and “Monsterland”. She has acted in “Creep 2”, “Girls” and “Flowers”.
Akhavan’s residency is sponsored by the School of the Arts, the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, and the Pehler Grant, which provides funding for artists to present and engage with the St. Cloud State campus community. As part of her residency she will also give an in-class master class on writing and developing “The Bisexual”.
