St. Cloud State College Counseling and Student Development master’s student Sabrina Yang was recognized by the Asian Pacific American Network (APAN) at the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) 2022 convention in St. Louis, Missouri on March 6.
Yang was honored with the Outstanding Graduate Student award, an award that recognizes a master’s or doctoral student in student affairs, higher education, or a related field who has demonstrated academic excellence, active involvement on campus or in the higher education sector, and significant potential as an Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) scholar-practitioner.
According to the nomination submitted to APAN, “As part of her Graduate Assistantship in the Center for International Studies at St. Cloud State University, Sabrina coordinated and edited an Education Abroad blog series titled ‘HMoob (Hmong) Around the World.’ The series highlights stories of SCSU Hmong American students and alumni education abroad experiences. Sabrina also plans to complete a master’s thesis focused on Hmong college students’ experiences with study abroad. Furthermore, this semester Sabrina began serving as a research assistant on a grant-funded study to explore the experiences of Hmong American student affairs educators.”
APAN is one of four networks within the Coalition for Multicultural Affairs (CMA). CMA’s purpose is to act as the coordinating directorate body for educating student affairs professionals on the issues and concerns of students, faculty, and staff of color in the higher education community.
The APAN Awards annually recognize members of ACPA who have contributed significantly to the APIDA community within student affairs and higher education.
