
A recent St. Cloud State University Mass Communications graduate was recognized as one of the most outstanding collegiate radio and TV sports broadcasters in the nation in May.

Alumnus Sam Goetzinger, who graduated from St. Cloud State in 2022 with a Mass Communications degree with an emphasis in Creative Media Production, received 2022 Jim Nantz Award All-American Honorable Mention recognition by the Sportscasters Talent Agency of America (STAA) All-America Program, which recognizes the top collegiate sportscasters each spring.
While at St. Cloud State, Goetzinger held multiple roles available for students with University Chronicle, UTVS, KVSC and Husky Productions, which recently earned awards from SVG College Sports Media in 2021 and from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association and the Society of Professional Journalists in 2022.

Goetzinger was also one of six student journalists who traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2021 to broadcast live during St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey’s appearance in the Men’s Hockey Frozen Four.
St. Cloud State has had multiple students earn recognition during the annual Jim Nantz Award and STAA All-American Program presentation, with some recent students being Katie (Emmer) Storm in 2018 (winner of Jim Nantz Award), Joe Scarrella in 2019 (Top 20 selection) and Kirsten Krull in 2020 (Top 20 selection).
