The Miller Center Student Art Show makes its return starting Nov. 18 after a two-year hiatus, showcasing St. Cloud State University student art on the first floor of the James W. Miller Learning Resources Center.
The show is sponsored by the St. Cloud State Library and the Art Student Union. An opening reception was held Nov. 17 announcing the top honors from the 34 submissions.
The annual show first began in 2016 as an opportunity for more students, whether they were art majors or not, to have their art displayed. This year is the first time the event has been held since 2019. It was canceled the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kristina Zabinski helped organize this year’s event with the Art Student Union. She last participated in the event in 2019 and will graduate in the spring with her degree in Art Education.
She wanted to make sure the Student Art Show could happen once more before she graduates.
“I felt like there needs to be more student involvement,” Zabinski said. “I remember the excitement I had.”
Judges are from the Paramount Center for the Arts, and they will name a champion, second place, third place and two honorable mentions. The exhibit includes sculptures, paintings, digital art and photography.
“It’s always amazing to me as a non-artist to see the creativity of anybody, especially the students on campus,” University Archivist Tom Steman said.
The art will be on display in Miller Center First Floor West until Jan. 13.
