In a resounding triumph, the annual Diversity Job and Internship Fair emerged as a beacon of collaboration, inclusivity and unprecedented achievement on Jan. 26. The event, started in 2008, showcased for the 17th time the growing prowess of our University, as well as the invaluable partnerships that have propelled it to new heights.
Granite Partners Investment Firm: A Cornerstone of Support
A significant milestone in this year’s fair was the strategic collaboration with Granite Partners Investment Firm and its subsidiaries, the Granite Companies. Their generous funding significantly contributed to the success of the event, ensuring a diverse range of opportunities for our students.
Record-Breaking Employer Participation: An Abundance of Opportunities
Breaking all previous records, the fair saw an astounding 143 employers in attendance. The overwhelming demand for space reflects the growing recognition of our University as a hub for talent and a valuable resource for employers seeking diverse, skilled professionals.
Statewide Collaboration: A Tapestry of Talent
The event reached beyond our campus borders, inviting students from across Minnesota. Numerous institutions of higher education actively encouraged their students to take advantage of this valuable opportunity, transforming the fair into a dynamic platform that celebrated the diverse talent scattered across the state.
Global Perspectives: Removing Barriers to International Hiring
Acknowledging the importance of global perspectives, the fair hosted a representative from an immigration law firm. Their presence addressed employer inquiries regarding international hiring, solidifying our commitment to fostering opportunities for both domestic and international students.
Flags of Inclusion: Welcoming International Students
In response to the needs of our international students, we introduced a visually striking addition – international flags. These flags identified employers actively seeking to hire international students. This innovative addition aims to make the fair more inclusive and less daunting for our global community.
Career Prep Week: A Prelude to Success
The institution of Career Prep Week leading up to the fair was successful with students visiting the Career Center to connect with career staff and local employers. This initiative provided students with the tools and guidance needed to make the most of the career fair, fostering confidence and preparedness.
Career Fair Navigators: Facilitating Connections
New to the fair this year were Career Fair Navigators – faculty and staff volunteers dedicated to assisting students in navigating the event. From identifying employers of interest to facilitating introductions, the Navigators created a supportive atmosphere that enriched the fair experience.
The success of this year’s Diversity Job and Internship Fair is not merely a reflection of numbers but a testament to the collaborative spirit within our university community. As we celebrate these achievements, we look forward to building on this success, further establishing our commitment to diversity and inclusion in the years to come.
