St. Cloud State University has been awarded a $205K training grant in partnership with Central McGowan.
The grant was recently awarded by from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) under the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) funding.
The primary goal of the MJSP plan is to equip the team managers with the skills they need in the rapidly changing environment, develop their emerging leaders, retain current employees and up-skill employees to advanced positions. The grant will have three outcomes:
- The incumbent worker is gaining skills they can carry with them.
- The company is gaining a stronger workforce with enhanced skills specific to their industry.
- SCSU, along with other local colleges, is gaining increased capacity to develop and deliver new programming that can be used by other businesses.
Central McGowan is a Minnesota Based independent and family-owned distributor of welding and industrial equipment, gases, supplies, abrasives, safety equipment; beverage carbonation solutions and dry ice; and FANUC-authorized integrator of robotic and automation solutions. They specialize in three areas: welding equipment and supplies, gases and automation. Founded in 1947, Central McGowan is a third-generation owned company.
SCSU’s Professional and Continuing Education department (PACE) partners with businesses to offer professional development, customized training and host conferences and events. PACE has partnered with over 20 companies on grants totaling over $4.7 million, serving more than 6,000 employees with professional and continuing education customized to their industry.
