SCSU’s student-run organization Husky Productions has won a national award.
After being nominated for six SVG College Sports Media Awards last month, SCSU took home the top prize for Outstanding Live Non-Game Production in the Collegiate Student division.
Husky Faceoff: St. Cloud State vs. Denver Pregame was honored at the 16th-Annual 2024 SVG/NACDA College Sports Media Awards on May 29.
“Husky Face-off is our pregame show that we only bring out once we get good at producing the live games,” said Brian Stanley, executive producer of Husky Productions. “This season’s crew got really, really good at producing games, allowing us to expand into our pregame show earlier in the season. This, in combination with Ryan McNamara’s vision, allowed us to deliver award winning television.”
McNamara was the UTVS Sports Director and in-studio host last year, and he said he felt extremely grateful for the organization to be honored.
“I think at the start of the season this group knew how high the expectations we had for ourselves and whole production team were, and how important it was to create and produce high-level, meaningful content on a weekly basis,” McNamara said. “Being honored with this award showed that Husky Productions and St. Cloud State continues to be one of the premier organizations for student development in broadcasting nationally. My peers and I are indebted to Brian Stanley, UTVS Advisor Derrick Silvestri and the rest of the staff in the Mass Communications program that have spent countless hours helping us max out our potential.”
“Shortly after the season started I realized we had a special group of students involved in Husky Productions.” said Silvestri, UTVS studio manager and chief engineer for Husky Productions. “I quickly reached out to the arena to see if there was a permanent spot we could build a stage for our in-arena desk. We were offered a few rows right next to the dog pound student section and the rest was history. I’m proud of what this group of students were able to create.”
Husky Productions is an entirely student-run organization under the direction of Stanley and Silvestri. HP has been broadcasting St. Cloud State hockey for over 30 years.
