Computer science professor publishes major textbook revision

Sarnath Ramnath, who has been a professor at St. Cloud State University for over 30 years, recently co-published a major textbook revision in the undergraduate field of computer science.

The textbook is titled, “Object-Oriented Analysis, Design and Implementation: An Integrated Approach.” Ramnath has been working on the revision with co-author Brahma Dathan since 2016.

“This has been a major revision that incorporated a lot of new computing developments and innovative methods designed to make abstract concepts more accessible to students,” Ramnath said.

The textbook incorporates project-based learning into software design, also integrating enterprise-level concepts and new technologies into the material.

“We expect that this will set a standard for a course that connects a typical computer science senior with the principles, processes and trade-offs involved in the design of larger programs,” Ramnath said. “It was a lot of hard but satisfying work, and hopefully it will reach the intended audience.”
