St. Cloud State University’s Lindgren Early Learning Center is hosting a free alumni event from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at St. Cloud’s Great River Children’s Museum on March 24.
The event will celebrate the teachers, staff, parents and students who have been connected to the childcare center for more than four decades before it closes on May 15.
“We are making meaning out of grief, and we are celebrating 45 years of high-quality early childhood education, parent support, student practicum and employee experiences,” said Carol Gibson-Miller, managing director of the Lindgren Early Learning Center. “We invite people who have been part of this incredible student service to come celebrate the legacy and share stories of joy and accomplishment. We must celebrate the impact of all who taught, learned and were better off because Lindgren was there to support their needs.”

A daycare center was opened in 1980 to provide student parents and SCSU employees with an on-campus childcare option. The SCSU Campus Childcare Center quickly outgrew its location in the Education Building and moved to the remodeled Engineering and Computing Center in 1984.
It was renamed the Lindgren Child Care Center in 1997 in honor of Steve and Jeannie Lindgren, who made a gift of over $300K to the SCSU Foundation to establish a scholarship to assist single mothers attending St. Cloud State.
