The We Are One St. Cloud Festival brought together groups and individuals to build up peace and a sense of community in the area, according to co-organizer Brianna Miller.
A peace studies major at the College of St. Benedict, Miller said misunderstandings can create violence. She sees that happening in St. Cloud, Miller said, whether it be with immigrant, LGBT or disabled communities.
Fellow organizer Ben Bourgoin from the Social Responsibility Student Organization at St. Cloud State said Miller was the main idea generator for the event. He supported her thought that people need to proactively make peace, “not just react when racists show their heads.”
