St. Cloud Times — America’s social capital is declining. People are less involved in their communities, less likely to trust others, and even spend less time eating dinner as a family.
Current events and recent history combine to make this an opportune time to survey St. Cloud-area residents about their social capital. (“Researchers measure trust, ‘social capital’ in area,” Nov. 26.)
It will be good to have the School of Public Affairs at St. Cloud State University conduct a new survey. Like the previous efforts, it will seek to measure social capital by asking about the strength of the connections people have to their communities. The goal is to ask 500 people in the area questions about their trust in their neighbors, their trust in people of different nationalities and races, and how often they meet new people.
