Nearly 600 students are expected to participate in Commencement ceremonies 1 p.m. Dec. 18 in Halenbeck Hall gymnasium.
They are among 997 students earning degrees Fall Semester. Many will share their graduation weekend photos on social media via the #SCSUGrads hashtag.
The degree earners include 842 undergraduate students and 155 graduate students. Among those graduate students are six people earning doctor of education degrees.
Delivering the student address is Emilio Ramos DeJesus ’15, Salinas, Puerto Rico, a bachelor’s degree graduate in Mass Communications. Ramos DeJesus is the former general manager of UTVS Television, the student-run station headquartered in Stewart Hall. He also was the award-winning founder and anchor of UTVS News En Español. He works as a reporter for WVEN-TV, a Univision-affiliated television station in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Sharing alumni remarks will be Floyd Balentine ’98, Oakdale. A pilot for Pinnacle Airlines/Delta Connection, Balentine is president of the Alumni Association.
Representing the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system will be Michael Vekich, chair of the board of trustees. Vekich is CEO of a Minneapolis management advisory firm. He also chairs the board of directors for a Sioux Falls-based regional bank chain and its parent company.
Representing faculty will be Iyekiyapiwin Darlene St. Clair, associate professor and director of the Multicultural Resource Center. Of Mdewakanton Dakota ancestry, St. Clair will deliver her remarks in Dakota.
Representing students will be Matthew Northrup, graduate assistant for prospective student recruitment in the School of Graduate Studies. Of Anishnaabe (Ojibwe) descent, Northrup will share his remarks in Anishnaabemowin.
Mayor David Kleis ’89 will bring greetings from the City of St. Cloud.
Parking will be free Dec. 18 in campus parking lots and the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp. Graduates, their guests, faculty and staff are encouraged to use the free St. Cloud Metro Bus shuttle.

At St. Cloud State, an A average corresponds to a 4.0 grade-point average. Undergraduate honors are:
- Gold tassel | Summa cum laude (with highest honor) = 3.75 to 4.00
- Silver tassel | Magna cum laude (with great honor) = 3.50 to 3.74
- Red tassel | Cum laude (with honor) = 3.25 to 3.49
