Veterans gathered Dec. 16 at the St. Cloud State Veterans Resource Center to celebrate a new mural at the center painted by student veterans Jon Ellig and Alex Wilkie.

Designed by Ellig, the mural depicts scenes of veterans and soldiers. Veterans and members of the St. Cloud State community gathered Dec. 16 for a ribbon cutting to unveil the finished mural to students, faculty and staff.
The student veterans also presented a certificate of appreciation to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 9 for the group’s support of the St. Cloud State Student Veterans Organization’s efforts to support local veterans.

The Student Veterans Organization used the DAV financial contributions to hold an inaugural Veterans Picnic in August at Lake George. The event raised funds to create a Veterans Hardship Fund designed to support St. Cloud State student veterans who find themselves in financial need or experiencing an emergency.
DAV Chapter 9 Commander LeRoy Kieke and Former DAV Chapter Commander Jim Fountaine were on hand to accept the honors as well as present a certificate of appreciation to Student Veterans Organization President Brandon Askin.
