St. Cloud Times – Ashish K. Vaidya spent nearly one year as St. Cloud State University’s provost and vice president of academic affairs before he was named acting president in the wake of President Earl H. Potter’s death on Monday.
Vaidya had been special adviser to the president for regional economic development at California State University in Los Angeles before being named to the St. Cloud State position in December 2014. He started on July 1, replacing previous provost Devinder Malhotra.
At a news conference Tuesday, Steven J. Rosenstone, chancellor of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, said he will ask the MnSCU board of trustees next week to appoint Vaidya as interim St. Cloud State president.
“He is a gifted leader, and I know he will continue to work closely with faculty, staff, students and the community throughout this transition,” Rosenstone said. “I have complete confidence in his ability to lead the university over the months ahead, and to be an absolutely stellar partner with this community. He is singularly equipped to do so.”
