Courtney Gillman ’13 is the first recipient of the Rising Star Award, which recognizes outstanding advocacy and creative thinking in the fields of sexual assault services and survivor support.
Gillman, 25, is a youth services advocate at Alexandra House, an Anoka County emergency shelter that provides support services and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and sexual violence.
St. Paul-based Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault created the Rising Star Award. Award criteria include bringing creative ideas to advance grassroots organizing, being eager to learn and seek local solutions to advance systems change and contributing to advancing programming to support access for survivors.
Gillman holds a bachelor’s degree in social work. While at St. Cloud State she interned with the Women’s Center Gender Violence Prevention Program and Sherburne County Area United Way.
