Jamie Trachsel, a Duluth native and former standout player at St. Cloud State, has been named the new head softball coach at the University of Minnesota.
Traschsel was the head coach at Iowa State last season, leading the Cyclones to a 23-35 record. Prior to that, she spent six seasons as the head coach at North Dakota State where her teams advanced to NCAA regional play five times.
She replaces Jessica Allister, who led the program to its first No. 1 national ranking last season, but left last week to take over as head coach at Stanford – her alma matter.
Trachsel helped lead St. Cloud State to three straight Division II tournament appearances during her time as a player with the Huskies. She graduated from the school in 2001.
