For the third-straight year, St. Cloud police report a drop in the number of people cited for various offenses during move-in weekend at St. Cloud State University.
A release from the department cited cooperation with both the school and city offices in helping come up with a scheduling plan now in its third year. It shifted move-in day from a Saturday to a Thursday to allow for a four-day orientation for new students.
It also includes police, city and St. Cloud State officials making prevention walks through the neighborhood around campus before and during the weekend.
In 2015, the first year the program was implemented, 137 people were cited. Last year, that number dropped to 107.
And over a three-day period this past weekend, the total was 75 – only 23 of whom were current St. Cloud State students, according to statistics from university officials cited in the release.
