Benjamin F. Richason III earned the Distinguished Educator Award from the Minnesota GIS/LIS Consortium.
The Distinguished Educator Award recognizes active educators who have demonstrated leadership, creativity and enthusiasm for the effective use of geography and GIS to inspire, engage, and prepare students for participation in the workforce and geospatial community. The organization presented Richason with the award at the 28th Annual Conference and Workshop Oct. 3-5 in Duluth.
Richason teaches in the Department of Geography and Planning. As a St. Cloud State instructor for more than 38 years, Richason was the driving force behind the geography program and the master’s program at St. Cloud State.
“Without educators like Dr. Richason, the energy, persistence, and drive to create a platform for students to grow and succeed would not exist in the Minnesota GIS community,” said GIS/LIS Consortium Chair Scott Freburg, in presenting the award.
