Kristen Norlund ’14, Brand Communicator at DAYTA Marketing
Recent graduate Kristen Norlund ’14 has found a career in the world of social media.
The Balsam Lake, Wisc., native and public relations major at St. Cloud State University, Norlund is now a brand communicator at DAYTA Marketing in St. Cloud where she manages the social media accounts of multiple clients across the United States.
Norlund operates on the behalf of her clients by posting on various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest, Instagram and others. She also creates monthly blogs, contests, reports, email campaigns and other interactive methods for her clients to communicate with consumers.
“My main goal is to build brand trust and top-of-mind awareness. I try to gain the best content I can for my clients. If they have any events going on, if they are in St. Cloud or the surrounding area, I attend, take photos and help out as much as I can,” Norlund said.
Norlund prepared herself for a career in social media with a degree in mass communications with an emphasis in public relations and knew she was in the right field of study when she joined the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).
“I helped with many events and toured many agencies and corporate offices through the club in the Twin Cities as well as Milwaukee and Chicago. They gave me networking experiences to learn whether I wanted to go corporate, agency or non-profit,” Norlund said of her experience with PRSSA.
During her time at St. Cloud State, Norlund stayed involved in as many clubs and organizations including Greek Life, the Lacrosse team and the National Society of Leadership and Success.
“St. Cloud State helped me find my interests and strengths and then guided me to the career path that fit into those areas. The classes I took gave me the knowledge and experience to move forward and thrive in my future career.”
Norlund is passionate about volunteering for various charities including the Walk to Defeat ALS where she participates every year by building a team and raising money in memory of her late father who passed away from ALS in 2009.
