Higher Education Administration Assistant Professor Dr. Brittany Williams has been honored for her efforts in providing guidance and support to graduate students in higher education.
Dr. Williams was honored with the American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Graduate Students and New Professional Community of Practice’s Outstanding Mentor to Graduate Students award during ACPA’s 2022 convention in St. Louis, Missouri on March 6-9.
The Outstanding Mentor to Graduate Students award is awarded to an outstanding student affairs professional or graduate preparation faculty member who goes above and beyond in their offers to offer guidance and support to graduate students in higher education or a student affairs-related graduate program.
Along with earning the award, Dr. Williams co-presented three sessions during ACPA 2022 on topics of approaches to deconstructing whiteness on campus, social class consciousness in sorority and fraternity life, and leadership learning through a social class lens.
Dr. Williams teaches in the master’s and doctoral programs in Higher Education Administration. She holds a doctorate in College and Student Affairs Administration from the University of Georgia. She focuses her research and advocacy on social class, black women and girls’ career progression, identity development, sexual health and engagement in activism. She is the co-founder of the award-winning #CiteASista digital counter-community and one of five founding members of #SisterPhD.
Dr. Williams has also been recognized with other awards for her work in higher education at St. Cloud State, including the NASPA IV-E Research Grant, the AAUW American Publication Grant, and the 2019 Southern Association for College Student Affairs (SACSA) Dissertation of the Year award. She is also a 2020-2021 AAUW American Fellow.
