The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) has accepted the abstract of Statistics majors Mason Henricks and Valerie Loch for a poster presentation at its annual meeting this October.
The project is “Detecting pleiotropic breast cancer susceptibility variants from Genome-Wide Association Studies”. It is funded by Mathematics and Statistics professor Dr. Xiaoyin Li’s Early Career Grant. In this project, Hendricks and Loch, under Li’s direction, aim to identify and functionally characterize genetic variants showing pleiotropy for cancer risk and understand the common biological pathways to different cancers and other diseases using statistical methods.
The ASHG Annual Meeting is the oldest and largest international human genetics conference worldwide. It is held each fall in a major U.S. or Canadian city and attracts about 6,000–7,000 attendees each year.
Way to go Mason, Valerie, and Dr. Li!
